Name: Thomas Joshua Cathal
Age: 15
Sex: Male
Face Claim: N/A
Appearance: After is average height of 5'8", the most notable aspect of this kid is the fact that he is quite overweight at 210 lbs. Typically enough, he isn't a strong kid physically by any means, the only real signs of physical achievement being when he has to run like a madman away from something frightening. Obtaining more of his father's genetics by appearances, the aboriginal Australian side of the family (for easy reference though, he's black), Thomas is a pretty dark skinned individual. His hair is pretty darned curly to where he has that 'afro' sort of hairstyle, although not stylized where he looks like he jumped out of the 60's. Mainly due to the fact that his black hair is quite messy, and Thomas barely cares to really do much with it other than get it cut when his hair gets too long. Over his dark brown eyes rests a pair of rectangular shaped glasses with a black frame, something which he cannot see without.
Like his appearance, his clothes are rather bland. Generally he wears a long sleeved shirt, and over that a khaki suit jacket which remains unbuttoned. Easily enough, his pants are simply khaki work pants. Usually covered up mostly by his pants, Thomas wears a pair of boots which are tied pretty stiff. Due to his living situation, a few parts of his clothing are slightly torn and worn out. Resting on his left side is his brown, leather satchel, the strap extending from his right shoulder and across his body. Inside this satchel are various things such as a laptop, a couple books, and other necessities such as his inhalers. Granted, it's moreso his inhalers that he worried about, so he keeps those snug and secure without breaking them.
Personality: Upon first meeting, it becomes quite obvious how timid and cowardly this kid is. He has a tendency to slink away from confrontational situations, as well as most conversations in general. While it is possible to walk up to him, as more often than not his nose is in some book, don't expect to get much out of him. He has a tendency to stutter at times, although it isn't terribly difficult to make out what he's saying. Quite frankly, this stuttering was much worse in the past. Even still, Thomas is horrible at talking to people. Almost immediately he'll try and end a conversation, whether it be a lie such as 'I have to do something' or merely walking away. Although he attempts to remain calm when doing this, it's still entirely possible for him to come off as rude or a jerk. Even with all of this it's still pretty easy to spook him.
If someone does manage to get him to talk, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. For one, anything more than a few exchanges of words will result in him having an annoyed tone of voice. Now this tone of voice is acquainted with an not so confident way with words. Telling someone to 'Knock it off' or some such comes off as quite awkward and not very intimidating. While his voice has deepened a bit due to the nature of growing up, it's still rather mid-ranged as well. Because of this, it's pretty rare that he has any sort of authority in his tone of voice. Despite having lived around digimon who have what is a southern American accent, Thomas has only picked up and used a couple words from this sort of dialect. This is due to most of his life being raised in Australia, and as such has an Australian accent.
Two other important things that should be noted are his hesitation and how easy he gives up on most things. His lack of experience with the world outside of his home makes various decisions difficult for him to accomplish. More often than not his experience with computer mechanics causes him to try and force his thoughts to come to logical conclusions, as though things are only 'true' and 'false'. While he can get basic facts down, he finds it difficult to apply them in conversation unless it's something intellectual such as more complicated mathematics. In essence, his is book smart, not street smart. This is why he vastly prefers to narrow down what he does to what he knows he can do. Most things, especially more physical activities, Thomas believes are out of his league and are impossible. His general lack of will power also causes him to give in a bit easily, making it simple for him to lose a debate.
What he lacks in charisma is made up for in his preferences, however. His great fondness for reading has over time granted Thomas a fantastic amount of intelligence. While he doesn't know everything in the world, he is able to find a solution to problems which revolve around mental capabilities. A mathematical or scientific problem is easy for him to understand, as well as remembering facts. Or at least, what is fact at a given time as he understands that science has never found a one and only truth. His other capability is computer programming, more specifically the coding that makes up a computer system. Since this has been self taught, through observation and practice he has managed to learn how to quickly access, read, and manipulate a program's inner mechanics. Of course, he can't do something crazy like reboot the Digital World or shut down a government's entire computer system. Actually, peeking into his bag will reveal a book on somewhat advanced physics, as well as an advanced book on computer programming. Granted, these two books may be a bit out of date considering they are at least a couple years old.
His reclusive lifestyle has been a defense mechanism of sorts. The death of his mother all those years ago made him realize that people don't last forever. Especially with some of the knowledge he's gained through reading and studying. While Thomas comes off as anti-social, he really doesn't want to deal with the same pains again of a loved one's death. Of course, there is no real excuse for going as far as he did, but that's simply the choice he has made. He does in fact have feelings of wanting to care about someone, and understands at times what someone is trying to do, but with having been bullied before Thomas has issues trusting someone anyways. People do have a tendency to mislead others, which is something he is quite aware of. He has been terribly lonely at various moments, and at times tries to deny it himself.
History: Thomas starts off as a boy born in Brisbane, Australia; his parents being an aboriginal Australian man named Dane Cathal, and a Hawaiian woman named Luana Cathal. However, his life during these first years of childhood weren't too terribly bad. Granted, there was the issue of his father being in the military at the time, more often than not being alone with his mother. Perhaps this was what started Thomas's whole deal later on in life. It was during these moments alone with his mother that he constantly grew close to her to the point where he began an Oedipus complex of sorts. This was shown moreso through his unwillingness to stay away from Luana for an extensive period of time. Thankfully this was eventually solved after some time when he started school at the age of five, otherwise there would have been some very crazy problems.
Still, there was the fact that the Oedipus complex of sorts remained. Whenever his father was able to come home to visit, Thomas never quite fully understood who this man was aside from 'Papa'. As such, he did his best to stay with his mother, since on top of not knowing this man Thomas was rather frightened of his large father. Didn't help that Dane didn't really know how to interact with his son either. It was a fact that remains even in the present time, although that time wasn't until much later. For now, Thomas simply went through these begining stages of life, and from early on showed a pretty high level of intelligence, constantly readings books. As a matter of fact his mother was pretty strict about doing good in school, which was likely the cause of this.
When Thomas was around eight years old, a certain event would happen that would change his life somewhat. That night was simply when his grandfather was babysitting him while his parents were out for some alone time; dinner, talking, and all that jazz. Coming home late at night was a given, although late at night was typically when pretty shady people wandered about pretty much any city. Both of his parents ended up getting jumped by a couple of thugs, and while his father's military training helped some, he was still only one man. In the end, Thomas's mother was shot and killed, with his injured father being sent to the emergency room when the couple was found by the police. Upon discovering this news and attending his mother's funeral, Thomas more or less had a complete mind screw.
Due to the difficulties of not having someone to continuously watch over an eight year old boy, it became apparent that his father had to retire from the military in order to make everything work. Granted, Thomas did have his grandfather from his father's side, but as humans typically do he was growing too much older every day. At this point the boy would now be living with his father, who out of partially being stubborn and partially lacking child raising skills, became a workaholic in order to support Thomas. Now this only proved to create more problems, as the boy's Oedipus complex still remained. He still didn't know what to make of this man he was to call a father, and neither father nor son had the ability to really interact with the other.
In order to keep things as simple as he could, Thomas ended up becoming a recluse for a time. He became increasingly focused on his studies, slowly drawing himself away from other kids his age. When trying to interact with other kids at school, he ended up failing big time and started to become the object of bullies. Although this started as a minor thing, it eventually came to the point where it became daily torment. Every day right after school Thomas rushed home to avoid any confrontations, and it was rare that he stayed outside for long. His father didn't question this, as Dane almost always came home later than his son. Upon reaching the age of ten, he began having increasingly more difficult breathing problems and was diagnosed with asthma, which was an affliction that seemed to be somewhat common with his mother's side of the family.
Due to this, Thomas became even more frightened of doing anything too crazy, merely furthering his recluse state even more. On top of that his vision dropped drastically, requiring eyeglasses in order to see things further than right in front of his face. The apparent combination of these caused Thomas to start stressing out over things, becoming paranoid about things such as his inhalers and glasses. Of course, it began pretty slowly, but he soon found himself occasionally eating quite a bit of food, and the combination of this and his lack of enough exercise caused him to become overweight. It was worrying to his father, but since Thomas was in his room pretty much the entire time he wasn't at school, there became an even bigger disconnect between them.
Soon though, it became apparent to the boy that he needed something to do, as he found that he had read his books too many times over to really read anything for the millionth time often. Although it was extremely difficult for him to speak up, Thomas had eventually asked his father to get him a computer. Of course he was worried that the man would say no, but in the end, a computer was bought for the boy's room. It made the boy a bit less weary about his father, but the new computer merely caused his recluse self to spring up further. An internet connection came with this as well, and a world of information opened up to the boy. Although he was a timid, paranoid wreck in the real world, he found the factor of being anonymous while online a treat.
This curiousity he obtained by getting a computer led the now twelve year old boy to really start working with the inner mechanics of this machinery. He found that the coding worked quite well with his intelligence, and seriously began learning how to code and how to alter all of this. But this came with the same cost, and his lack of much interaction with people messed with his speech patterns, his verbal sentences involving stutters. In essence, his intelligence grew, but his charisma suffered. During this stage of life, another occurence involving a family member rose up: his grandfather's aging health forced the old man into the hospital more or less permanently. Thomas himself, while he was on more neutral terms towards his grandfather, was forced to go visit every so often.
However, these forced visits became his only real interaction with a real person. Although too late in the old man's life to do much outside of the hospital, Thomas slowly began to have respect for this man. He managed to take the time to listen, and had begun to open up to him. Granted, what didn't help was that a couple times he watched as his grandfather was forced into the emergency room due to heart issues. Thomas grew weary of this, as this man dying meant him opening up to someone could possibly be a waste. His mother dying years before didn't help, and he couldn't help but think about this ending with the same result. Still, he forced himself to visit his grandfather, this thought still wandering his mind.
His thirteenth birthday resulted in Thomas getting a laptop of his own. While quite redundant due to the fact that he had his own home computer, it was still a useful tool. In response the boy promptly transferred his already existing files to this laptop for on the go access. Along with this, he learned to multitask with two devices at his side. In any case, it became apparent some time after his thirteenth birthday that he was an unwanted incident magnet. While trying to shut down his home computer before going to visit his grandfather, a window kept popping up. Try as he might, Thomas was unable to get this window to permanently close. In frustration, he quickly took a look at what it said;
Have you taken notice of my message?
If you've gotten this far, surely you have!
Now human, you have made a choice to read this message.
That is the beauty of humanity: choice.
Choice gives in to humanity's selfish desires, needs, and overall life.
Unlike humans, digital choices are merely 'true' or 'false'.
What if you had the chance however, to see a Digital World?
Not merely the internet mind you, but an entity that gives choice to mere data.
I will make this simple; True or False?
Humans make use of the knowledge of choice.
It was an odd and unnerving message to be sure, but Thomas fully read the screen. From what he had gathered, the boy figured he could simply click an answer, and he could be on his way. It was just a computer after all, and computers merely ran on whether something was 'true' or 'false'. Without another moment of hesitation, and to hurry up and leave, Thomas clicked 'True'. The screen did in fact change, but did not respond with a screen to exit the program;
Do they really?
Let us make this interesting, shall we?
Show me your choices child as you wander the Digital World.
I would most certainly like to observe a human's notion of 'choice'.
Perhaps we will meet another day.

As the program continued, a bright light filled the screen and entered the room. Just like that, he was sucked into his computer screen with no recollection of what went on during this period of transportation. Of course, he probably would've just been met with a black space filled with 1's and 0's. Soon enough though he would wake up in a forest unfamiliar to him.
Upon waking up, he was soon met with fear and panic, not knowing where he was or how he got there. On the bright side he did have his satchel with him, which contained things such as his eyeglass case and inhalers. In any case, he found no reason to simply sit there. Slowly but surely, the human child began to wander around, trying to find a way out. Of course, being small, young, and weak attracted predators that Thomas surely did not want to see. More specifically, it was a giant insect that called itself Snimon. It was a simply task really: cut the child to bits and maybe feed upon him. At first, Thomas was allowed to try and run away, the monster deciding to have fun with its food. The boy couldn't run for very long however, eventually tripping and landing on the ground. He hastily grabbed his inhaler, using it to stop a possible asthma attack. Upon turning around he saw Snimon's blades above him to attack.
...The attack never came. Instead, the insect monster was flailing about in the grip of a rather beastly hand. This hand simply slammed Snimon into the ground, crushing the body until it exploded into data. A now horrified Thomas cringed before looking up at whoever killed the monstrous bug. What stood before, and over, him was a werewolf looking beast. A few moments went by, this werewolf apparently having quite the foul mouth, and the creature simply grabbed the human, beginning to carry the child away. Thomas wasn't entirely sure what was going on, and he tried to flail about to get out of the werewolf's grip. Of course, the beast was too strong for him to do so. Some time later, he was taken to what appeared to be a village in the forest where many huts stood.
He wasn't entirely sure of all the details, but apparently Thomas found himself in one of the larger huts. In here, after being calmed to an extent, he was met with a large, talking tree. While this monster was a digimon called Cherrymon, the old tree went by the name Pythagoras. He was the mere elder and current ruler of the Huts, and due to his age was unable to find the child efficiently enough. As such, it turned out the werewolf who the human had met was a WereGarurumon whose name was Ferghus. This situation didn't matter to the werewolf too much, because all he was asked to do was bring back whatever he found; this was specifically Thomas that he found.
In any case, it was strange that this human was sent here to the Digital World with no way of getting back home. Nobody around there had requested this boy, nor did anybody even know him! Current matters were figuring out what to do with Thomas. They couldn't just send a young boy with no capability of defending himself out into the world, especially one with apparent breathing problems. Pythagoras decided that it would be best to just keep the child here in the huts, the next problem being who he'd stay with. Obviously word getting out that a human in the Digital World would mean trouble, and as such Thomas would need someone strong enough to protect him. A few names were tossed about, and it became clear that they had little choice. Pythagoras wasn't necessarily able to keep constant care of a young boy, so he was out. That left two digimon: Ferghus, and a Grizzmon who ran a bar within the village of the huts. When confronted with this, 'Uncle Grizz' as the younger ones called him felt unsure about raising a kid in a bar, so he declined. Whether it was lack of thought or not caring too much, Ferghus decided to get it over with and take Thomas in to live with him.
Thomas's life with the WereGarurumon was a bit... rough, so to speak. While not abused or anything of the sort, the boy learned quickly of the werewolf's faults. Ferghus was an alcoholic, and didn't seem to share too many caring moments with his new found 'son', so to speak. Most of the life lessons the 'mon taught the boy was to toughen up a bit, quite often made direct mention of Thomas being a coward. In essence, raising a child was nothing more than a job the WereGarurumon put up with every day. He didn't try and get rid of the boy, as that would cause problems he didn't want to deal with. Despite all of this, Ferghus at least made sure Thomas was fed and all that jazz. Overall the digimon was known to be pretty rough guy who tended to be loud and confrontational. However, while Thomas accepted that this beast would be his father for the time being, he simply kept to himself unless told to get out of the house for a bit.
For the most part, there were really only three places of mention Thomas went to over the next couple of years: his hut, Pythagoras's hut, and Uncle Grizz's bar. While he couldn't necessarily gain every resource available, Pythagoras had the ability to copy information from the humans' internet, and use it as a teaching resource. Although power was an important thing in the rural Digital World, the Cherrymon felt it important that the youth gain knowledge. Thomas, while hesitant at first, came to eagerly wanting more knowledge, having studied many educational resources that Pythagoras loaned him. Due to Thomas' asthma, the elderly digimon used a couple of his connections from the Digital Metropolis to keep the boy's condition in check. Every so often, really due to it being drilled into Ferghus's head that he was now a father, the WereGarurumon was sent out to the Metropolis to pick up Tom's new inhalers. It was during these times that the human child was sent to temporarily live with Uncle Grizz.
Those times he lived with the Grizzmon were rather uneasy for the boy. While also rather rough, Uncle Grizz was in reality a more concerned digimon. Despite preferring Thomas to stay on the upper floor where the bartender lived, the digimon wasn't okay with the boy becoming a recluse. He tried to talk with the boy on numerous occasions, but those conversations didn't last too long. Even having Thomas sit at one of the bar's tables didn't get the boy to open up to anyone. The flip side of this was the human boy's point of view. He was unsure of what to make of Uncle Grizz. Like humans, he knew that digimon could be killed and die. It was deja vu with his grandfather so to speak. While Thomas did have some desire to talk to the bear, the thoughts of it being a wasted relationship kept pouring into his mind. If he cared deeply about what was essentially his uncle as he did his own mother, the death of Uncle Grizz would just throw the boy into a spiral of grief again.
Still, Thomas just let his life in this village go on. While he was still a coward, the boy grew to have a more annoyed tone of speech rather than ecstatic. Perhaps this was due to Ferghus wanting the kid to toughen up a bit, which in a sense did work a little. Of course, this resulted in the boy shutting himself away from everyone even more. His answers to people, unless it involved some intellectual thought, were generally short. About two years he lived here by this point, his choices being the safer route of things. When the news of the Resistance and Dark Knights began to act up, Thomas was notified on his laptop from what appeared to be the stranger from two years ago (some digimon kindly had the ability to recharge the battery these past couple of years).
You don't like an exciting life do you?
I learned that from your choices.
But you know, everyone has to make choices they don't like.
Living in the Digital World hasn't been much different for you.
Maybe we should put a spin on this excursion, hmm?
Other humans are to aid the Resistance and the Dark Knights.
This world offered you a home, so perhaps it's time to pay back your debt?
Resist a new world order, or become a valiant Knight.
Be careful though: choices are not always 'True' or 'False'.
The second time was rather annoying for Thomas to put up with. He couldn't respond directly this time. Even still, it was likely he would be bothered by this... acquaintance again if he didn't decide. There wasn't too much time to decide, as already a couple digimon from both the Resistance and the Dark Knights came across the Huts for recruits. Of course, any fights were quickly shut down by Ferghus, but the human teenager still had a decision to make. There was no denying it though that he would take the 'lesser of two evils'. As such, Thomas decided that the Resistance was his best bet in doing SOMETHING. Mentioning his decision to Pythagoras, a bit of thought was put into the boy's decision. While the Huts were going to remain neutral in the matter, Thomas would be welcomed back any time he took leave from the Resistance. After all, by this point the teenager knew the nature of this village. His only trouble now was getting a way to join. But there is always that remaining thought;

His thirteenth birthday resulted in Thomas getting a laptop of his own. While quite redundant due to the fact that he had his own home computer, it was still a useful tool. In response the boy promptly transferred his already existing files to this laptop for on the go access. Along with this, he learned to multitask with two devices at his side. In any case, it became apparent some time after his thirteenth birthday that he was an unwanted incident magnet. While trying to shut down his home computer before going to visit his grandfather, a window kept popping up. Try as he might, Thomas was unable to get this window to permanently close. In frustration, he quickly took a look at what it said;
Have you taken notice of my message?
If you've gotten this far, surely you have!
Now human, you have made a choice to read this message.
That is the beauty of humanity: choice.
Choice gives in to humanity's selfish desires, needs, and overall life.
Unlike humans, digital choices are merely 'true' or 'false'.
What if you had the chance however, to see a Digital World?
Not merely the internet mind you, but an entity that gives choice to mere data.
I will make this simple; True or False?
Humans make use of the knowledge of choice.
It was an odd and unnerving message to be sure, but Thomas fully read the screen. From what he had gathered, the boy figured he could simply click an answer, and he could be on his way. It was just a computer after all, and computers merely ran on whether something was 'true' or 'false'. Without another moment of hesitation, and to hurry up and leave, Thomas clicked 'True'. The screen did in fact change, but did not respond with a screen to exit the program;

The second time was rather annoying for Thomas to put up with. He couldn't respond directly this time. Even still, it was likely he would be bothered by this... acquaintance again if he didn't decide. There wasn't too much time to decide, as already a couple digimon from both the Resistance and the Dark Knights came across the Huts for recruits. Of course, any fights were quickly shut down by Ferghus, but the human teenager still had a decision to make. There was no denying it though that he would take the 'lesser of two evils'. As such, Thomas decided that the Resistance was his best bet in doing SOMETHING. Mentioning his decision to Pythagoras, a bit of thought was put into the boy's decision. While the Huts were going to remain neutral in the matter, Thomas would be welcomed back any time he took leave from the Resistance. After all, by this point the teenager knew the nature of this village. His only trouble now was getting a way to join. But there is always that remaining thought;
